Fiera Fendi, On the Reality of Hosting

Updated: Sep 19, 2022

Meet Fiera Fendi, the Malaysian eSports Games sweetheart, who has won the hearts of many by thriving in the world of hosting.

25-year-old Fiera Fendi is a gem of a person. She was born in the lively city of Johor Bahru but spent most of her childhood years in Kuala Lumpur. Fiera first appeared in short advertisements (ads) back in her early school days, dabbled in acting, and modeling for ads, and then took a serious interest in hosting, which was the start of her career.

"I started as a host and freelance talent when I was 21 years old, then established myself and became a full-time eSports Games host," said Fiera, already in her fourth year of hosting.

Angel Fiera, as what they called her in the gaming world, started her hosting journey in the Southeast Asia World Electronic Sports Game (WESG) in 2018, then went on to host in M1 Championship in 2019.

In an interview with Fiera, she talks about the reality of hosting and her greatest achievements.

HOSTING IS NOT AS EASY AS ABC

Easygoing and known for her sweet personality, Fiera is committed to her passion. However, with passion comes great struggles. When asked about the reality of hosting, she admitted that being a host isn’t as easy as it seems.

“I wouldn’t say hosting is easy. But it all depends whether you're in front of the camera or on stage, facing a large audience because if you’re on stage, you’ll likely experience stage fright. The audience and surroundings matter too because it can determine how nervous we can get,” said Fiera, who prefers to be in front of the camera rather than on stage, as it gives her jittery.

She had to be on stage for the most of her host job, but this didn't shy her away from taking more hosting opportunities. Eventually, Fiera grew to become a confident and sporting host, thanks to her mother’s utmost support.

“Each career has its struggles but what I can say about hosting is that you need to learn how to adapt and act accordingly to the surroundings. Spontaneity is the key,” shares Fiera.

KNOWN FOR HOSTING IN MOBILE LEGENDS CHAMPIONSHIP

Fiera, the Mobile Legends host, talked candidly about her best moment while hosting an eSports event. She stated in the interview that the first Mobile Legends World Championship (2019), popularly known as M1, was the largest event she has ever hosted in the eSports Games industry.

Prior to M1, she worked as a host for the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) and she openly acknowledged that it was a wonderful opportunity for her to do so on a huge platform.

The M World Championship, Southeast Asia Cup, and LIGA LATAM were the three main championship that fell under MPL. As part of the World Championship's final event, Fiera and Nik Harris (The Hound) hosted the M1.

“Malaysia hosted M1, which took place at Stadium Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. Being able to host M1 was an honor. The Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup was the next event I hosted. I learned a lot from it, and it was a memorable and enjoyable experience for," Fiera chuckled.
