Lyn Elissa, on Slaying Transitions, Dressing to Kill, and Becoming an Inspo Icon

In April, a surprising event took a turn in Lyn Elissa’s life; what started as mere fun led her to an overnight sensation. Known for sharing relatable content in killer fashion outfits, Lyn Elissa is set to be the next top social media influencer.

In addition to creating content, Lisa believes that part of being a fashion influencer on social media is empowering others to look amazing in whatever they choose to wear.

“I like to give them confidence and inspire them in a way like giving style inspo. For me, when I see something pretty, it’ll go straight into my cart,” said Lisa of what it meant to be a fashion influencer.

As Marc Jacobs once said, “Let’s do what we love and do a lot of it” - a perfect quote to describe Lisa’s passion for fashion. Read on to learn more about her behind the public persona and how she started in content creation.

MY NAME IS LISA

A 2000s baby at heart, Lisa started building herself on Instagram at the age of 16. If you’re a follower since 2017, you would know her keen sense of beauty and all things fashionable.

Lisa is well-known for her aesthetic sense and her daring yet refined sense of style. She currently has 31.7K Instagram followers and 847.5K more on TikTok.

Having been blessed with an international face, the 22-year-old who grew up in the beautiful heart of Southeast Asia was often mistaken as a foreigner. The Malaysian-born and bred laughed about it every time someone struck a “you’re from Malaysia?!” to her.

“People get surprised when they see me in real life. They’d be like oh you’re so small or I thought you were from the U.S or something! I’m curious because like how? Why would people think I’m not from Malaysia,” laughed Lisa.

BEHIND THE SCREEN

Like a diamond, she sparkles when she enters a room. Her energy is gorgeous just like how she’s on social media. However, she describes herself as a shy person every time she has to be on camera.

“I’m shy but I don’t look like it, right? Hahaha maybe I’m good at faking it.

“I’m getting used to it, eventually I’ll be alright. It’s hard for me in the beginning especially when I have to talk in front of a camera,” shared Lisa.

Lisa carries herself nicely despite her shyness in front of the camera. She is a decent conversationalist who encourages others to dress with confidence. All her outfits scream - SLAYYY.

CONTENT CREATING, OUTFIT STYLING

Our conversation turns to a different topic as Lisa shares her journey on how she became a content creator. Lisa is focused as she carefully chooses her fondest memory of the moment, when she first became hot on TikTok.

“It all started way back but before this, I wasn’t even that active. I post once a month and started getting back on track in April. Since then, it’s been crazy.

“It was surprising and a bit overwhelming for me as I didn’t expect the videos to blow up. That’s the reason why I often post on TikTok,” said Lisa simply of what it felt to be famous.

Lisa often shares fun relatable contents such as career, college, and fashion with super smooth transitions all while incorporating versatile outfits. She admits that by following the trends on TikTok, she gets to be creative.

“I get a lightbulb moment from the TikTok sounds that I’ll be using. I’ll do something related to the song, sound, or something that I like what I see on my For You Page (FYP).

“I like to think my videos are informative (laugh) so people would look into it and feel inspired,” said Lisa.

ON RISING TO FAME

What sets Lisa apart from other TikTok influencers is the fact that she’s the epitome of a transition slayer. The queen of transition herself remarked, “What set me apart? Definitely my transition and outfits.”

According to her, it took a lot of practice to be the best.

“My first transition was horrible. I would mark my position - body, and face, on my phone, I’d even draw it just to get the idea and I’ll start from there,” laughed Lisa.

Always seen in clean, Parisian style clothes, Lisa is still grasping the idea of how she rose to fame.

“Sometimes, it becomes stressful because I rose to fame a bit too quickly. It’s hard to maintain and I feel pressured when I have to create interesting content, so I won’t lose my engagement with my followers,” said Lisa.

To overcome this, Lisa practices self-acceptance. “The key to self-acceptance is being confident. You have to accept all your flaws. We always think about our weaknesses when we do that, so we tend to feel insecure. Don’t,” Lisa noted.
